Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Do we just zelle you $35 before the tournament? There are no registration forms?
Yes, as long as entry is in by Thursday midnight the week of the tournament. After is $45. For forms, the registration information I need is your child's age or USCF ID# and your contact number.

2. Are they grouped by age and rank?
The Non-Rated are grouped by age. The USCF Rated are grouped by USCF rating. Each are grouped in 8 player octos.
After this, they only compete against the other 7 players in their octo.

3. I have a nephew who is 13. Are these tournaments only for younger kids?
No, these tournaments are appropriate for ages 4-18. Most ages are represented at each tournament.

4. My son has just learned how to play. Are these tournaments OK for him?
Yes, as long as he knows the basic movement and capture of pieces as well as the basic rules of checkmate, castling, etc., they are appropriate. He would play in the Non-Rated/Capture the King tournament. This is a Beginner Tournament.

5. Is my child able to play up in a Octo to play higher skilled players?
No. All players are put in rating order from highest to lowest.
The Octos are then created based on these ratings. For the Non-Rated octos, these are based on age.

6. Am I able to stay and wait for my child inside the playing area?
We ask for all tournaments held at Golden Sunshine Academy that parents drop off and then pick up like in a normal class. There are other classes in other rooms happening at the same time.

7. Why does it say "approx 12noon" as the ending time?
The tournament is 4 rounds in each octo. Sometimes these games go quicker than normal and sometimes they go slower than normal. I am unable to give an exact time for pickup due to this. However, history shows a pickup range of 11:15am - 12:30pm. Please follow our progression in each tournament at ww.swissys.com. As soon as he/she has started their 4th game, pick up time will be in 30 - 45 minutes.
